CrossFit Level 1 Certification
Growing up I played several sports but wouldn’t describe myself as the traditional “jock”. Any extra effort or practice was driven by my personal motivation instead of a level of competitiveness that comes along with conventional sports. My interest in health and fitness moved away from team sports with my first weight training class in high school. The common next step was a big-box gym with bench and back days, bicep curls, and all the usual muscle-head clichés. After several years of on-again, off-again (mostly off) cycles in traditional gyms, I started looking for something more comprehensive. I wanted a workout that was going to make me stronger, but not for a one-rep max bench press. I wanted to be strong for life. Queue YouTube and before I knew it, I’m teaching myself kettlebell swings in the backyard, building my own sandbags from Home Depot, and watching every CrossFit video I can find!
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you want to view it we will have hard times and challenges in life. For me, it has been family illnesses, lost jobs, and mental health. Whilst my goal for starting CrossFit was to be strong for life in the physical sense, CrossFit was strengthening me mentally and emotionally in ways I never expected. I could see how CrossFit was helping with physical tasks like helping a family member move and keeping up with my growing boys. At the same time, I could see I was becoming equally trained for life’s many obstacles that don’t require moving something heavy and fast. That convinced me something awesome happens in a WOD and is more than measured in weights, reps or time.
I didn’t start CrossFit for it to become my passion, however along the way it has turned into exactly that. Coming into CrossFit Sandy for an hour quickly became one of the best parts of my day. I want anyone else coming through our doors to have the same experience I did. It is my privilege to be a small part of someone’s day. I want to share my passion with them because I know how it is going to improve their life.
