We want you for the Open!

The 2017 Open is almost here. For those of you that are new, the Open is a five-week test of fitness where people, all around the world and from all walks of life, test one workout per week and give their absolute best to see how they stack up. The Open at CrossFit Sandy is special because it’s a time when our gym community gathers together on Fridays to throw down and give our absolute best.

The Open is fun. The Open challenges you to do your best and provides an opportunity to compete against yourself, friends and people like you all over the world.

Everyone can benefit from participating. The Open is the first step on the road to the CrossFit Games, but it is also a stand-alone competition that is center stage for more than 300,000 athletes around the world. It’s not about making it to the next stage as much as it is about coming together to push each other for 5 weeks to do our absolute best.

If you’ve never done the Open, trust us, it’s for you. If you’ve done it before, let’s beat last year’s best.

The Intramural Competition

In 2017, we’ll still have an official CrossFit Sandy Open competitive team. But internally we’ll also have three in-house intramural teams competing. And you’re going to be on one of them!

DRAFT

Every athlete registered for the Open will be drafted to a team and notified of their team assignment. The draft will take place in mid February.

POINTS

+1 Point – Attendance: Every member of a team that completes an Open workout at CrossFit Sandy each week earns one point. Maximum one point per athlete per workout; both Rx and Scaled competitors.

+1 Point – Top 3: Every male and female member who places among the Top 3 at CrossFit Sandy for each workout (RX & Scaled) earns an extra point for their team.

+5 Points – Spirit: The team with the most noise, pride, and PRESENCE each week will receive 5 bonus points.

WORKOUTS

In 2017, athletes competing in the Open will have only four days to complete each workout. The Open will have five workouts. The first workout will be announced on the evening of Thursday, February 23rd. You can be tested at any CrossFit group class time on Friday.  

The best time to test your Open workout will be on Friday evening. On Fridays at 5:00 – 5:15 p.m. we will discuss the workout, strategy, recommended warm-up and judging requirements. The first heat will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will continue until approximately 7:00 p.m.

We also host a “last-chance qualifier” on Sunday afternoons for athletes who can’t make any class on Friday or those that wish to re-test the workout.

PRIZES

Everyone will get an awesome 2017 CrossFit Open T-shirt with their team name. The top team will also earn a GRAND prize. Details released soon! Our focus is on FUN. We want participation because it will make you fitter, and it will get you high-fives and you’ll be happy!

REGISTRATION

Register online at the CrossFit Games site, then complete the appropriate registration form and let’s start this party!
